Hard times are the blueprint for success!

Early this morning I went for a jog, the cold morning air was a real shock to the system and I suddenly had a flash back to my youth and the journey I've been on! One of my first jobs whilst I was in college was doing manual labour, the dirty work! In the summer I enjoyed this work immensely! I loved being out in the sun, working as hard as I could. It felt like a real achievement, to push through my exhaustion and to receive affirmation and thanks from the boss when he saw what I had accomplished.

In the wintertime my perspective totally changed; I'd do anything to stay out of the cold! The change in season had a massive effect on my mental state and hindered my ability to still give my maximum effort. This also impacted on my self-esteem and confidence in myself.

I used to think to myself; " What if I end up staying here, always working in a dead end job, on minimum wage, I'm going nowhere!" I knew that I wanted more; don’t get me wrong, building work can be a great job, if you’re the boss, but if your just a labourer its not a great life!

The cold during the winter was so intense! One of my most vivid memories was working in below zero temperatures digging a trench for drainage pipes. The guys I worked with were all inside the extension we were building laughing at me shaking in the freezing cold rain. In this moment, soaking wet through, I felt completely humiliated and demoralised. I knew that this stage of my life was only stopgap between college and a professional career, but it really seemed to drag on and I just wanted it to be over as quickly as possible!

Looking back on the journey that I have travelled on since this time, I am astonished at where my life has arrived.

If you’re reading this you may think, well that’s nice Luke, but this isn't my story and I can't see the relevance! My reply to you is keep reading!

Life is about seasons –In the same way as the weather, we also go through transitional stages (seasons) in life. We can have incredible times! Everything is exciting and fresh, vibrant and passionate! We can experience new friends, a change of career, romance, marriage, and children! We can experience connection with people and a connection with GOD. Life can be so amazing we can be left in awe! This is like the spring and summer; everything feels positive and alive, and the air smells sweet! However after summer, comes autumn and winter. Hard times can follow. We can experience times of financial struggle, job uncertainty. Our relationships can feel shaky. It can feel, like everything that possibly could go wrong does! We feel mentally and emotionally exhausted and crushed. Like winter; this season in our life can feel like it will never end! Like we will never move past it, like the spring is so far away!

If you haven’t fully experienced coming out of a winter season I really want to encourage you in this – things will change! I know it can feel like you’re reaching a breaking point, but you can get through this!

I also want to say that seasons are completely necessary for you to reach your full potential.

Hard times build character – Without hard times you will never know what you’re capable of or what you can overcome.

Hard times produce gratitude – When you really go through a winter season in your life, it’s a good time to become self-aware of the areas which need improvement or of areas in which you lack. When you do enter back into a spring & summer season you are so grateful for what you now have that this produces an incredible feeling of gratitude. This will revolutionise your life!

Desperate times accelerate your productivity – When times are hard you can do one of two things. You can either decide to settle or you can decide to create a breakthrough. You can decide to beg for scraps or sit at the king’s table!

When you’ve got nothing to lose, you’ve got nothing to lose – Some of the most incredible Leaders, inventors, innovators and revolutionaries were honed and refined in the most desperate times in history! If life is really that bad and you feel like you’ve got nothing, you’ve got nothing to lose, YOU’VE GOT EVERYTHING TO GAIN!

My example earlier was a small segment of my life. I’ve experienced far more intense and painful circumstances, which I’m proud to say I have successfully come through, but more importantly learnt from and produced phenomenal growth in my life!

Where are you right now? What’s your situation?

Are you stuck in a job, that’s sucking the life out of you, do feel empty and insignificant?

Or maybe you feel barely alive, like life is void of any real adventure or purpose?

What’s your vision for life, are you lighting a candle or setting the world ablaze????

When your life comes to an end what will people say about you, will they even remember you, did you make a difference?

My challenge to you, is if you feel stirred by what you’ve read, are you satisfied with staying in the same place? If you’re not satisfied, or in fact, you know that you can hardly take another day of surviving life, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT TODAY!

I want to share what one of my clients said after she decided enough was enough and she did something about her situation.

"I went to Luke when I felt that my life was not going anywhere, I felt like I was just existing. Within one session of working with Luke I felt completely different, for the first time I felt positive, that I was finally going somewhere with my life. I'm now only three sessions in and I feel like a completely different person. Friends and family can see a dramatic change in me, I'm now spreading the positivity and living life like I should have been for the last few years. I'm looking forward to see how the next few sessions are and how my life changes for the better. Thanks Luke!!!"

Live the life you want, without restriction, without regret, with absolute confidence.

Luke

Thanks Dan! Whilst in the moment of what appears to be our toughest experiences, its hard to see the blessing, OK its REALLY hard to see the blessing! It's only after, that I can see the most difficult trials in my life were the most amazing opportunities to learn and grow stronger!

Nice post Luke, thank you. So true that the tough times make you appreciate the easy times/little things.  Working from a warm place in a comfortable chair, drinking a cup of coffee, definitely not something to complain about :)

Forgive / Forgiveness

I'm confused and need some guidance. When we talk about forgiving so that we can free ourselves from the past and the pain, does this mean we tell those that hurt us to forgive us or that we forgive them. Also, just to clarify, we talk to them…Continue
